Roundabout Construction Begins in Cape

The intersection of Independence St., Gordonville Rd., and East Rodney in Cape Girardeau is going to be turned into a roundabout. Due to heavy congestion at this intersection officials decided that turning it into a roundabout was the best way to increase traffic flow.

Construction begins on August 1, and completion is scheduled for November 2016. During this time a piece of Gordonville Rd. (from Independence to Edgewood Drive) will be closed. The intersection will be open during the Semo District Fair, but will be closed completely on September 19.

The new roundabout - Cape’s fourth - will be similar to the one at Fountain Street and Morgan Oak Street. It will have a single lane, and will be about the same size.
