Cape Girardeau Hosts First Farm to Table Dinner

PRESS RELEASE

Local farmers, chefs, and businesses are preparing to present downtown Cape Girardeau’s first Farm to Table dinner as a fundraiser event benefiting Old Town Cape, Inc.’s Cape Riverfront Market. The event will be held Sunday, October 2, 2016 beginning at 4 p.m. on the Southeast Missouri State University River Campus lawn overlooking the Mississippi River. Chefs from several downtown restaurants and Cape Riverfront Market vendors are joining to present an autumn-inspired meal from locally-sourced produce and meat.

The evening’s salad will be prepared by Chef James Cain of Port Cape Girardeau (19 N. Water St.). Appetizers will be prepared by Mary Jane Burgers & Brew (102 N. Jackson St, Perryville MO). The main dish will be prepared by Chef Ray Leung of Isle Casino Cape Girardeau (777 N. Main St.) with sides by 36 Restaurant & Bar (36 N. Main St.). Dessert will be prepared by Allen Findley of Socials Café & Coffeehouse (31 N. Main St.). Wine pairings will be provided by River Ridge Winery (County Rd. 321, Commerce MO). Ingredients for each portion of the all-inclusive meal will come from Cape Riverfront Market vendors and Missouri-raised, all-natural, steroid and hormone-free meat will be provided by Root + Holler.

Proceeds from Farm to Table will support the growth and sustainability of Cape Riverfront Market in downtown Cape Girardeau. “Cape Riverfront Market has grown substantially over the past five years and we are honored to be able to provide this event to the community. We want to make sure we’re setting ourselves up to keep the market sustainable so that people are able to enjoy the great Cape Riverfront Market experience for years to come,” says Old Town Cape, Inc. Executive Director Marla Mills. “We have to account for the hidden costs that you don’t necessarily see when you’re stocking up on fresh groceries and tapping your foot along to the live music on a sunny Saturday morning.”

Tickets for the event are $75 on or before Wednesday, September 21, 2016 or $100 after. Reservations can be made by calling Old Town Cape, Inc. at 573-334-8085 or emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by Friday, September 30, 2016.
