Southeast Students Volunteer for Operation Christmas Child

NEWS

Several churches host Operation Christmas Child each year, in which shoebox-sized boxes are packed with toys, crafts, hygiene products, and other gifts to be sent to needy children. This year several Southeast Missouri State University organizations pitched in as well, assisting the Baptist Student Center to collect, pack, and distribute 250 boxes. These boxes were taken to St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church. St. Andrews received 6,130 from all the generous organizations this year. The presents will be sent to the official Operation Christmas Child Denver Processing Center where they will be sent to needy children in Mexico.

Campus organizations Soles4Souls, Gamma Sigma Sigma service sorority, and agriculture student organizations encouraged donations, and put in a collective 65 hours of volunteer effort. Cheryl Reinagel, coordinator for the relay center, said, “We could not have done it without these amazing, generous students.  They have been here around the clock working in all types of weather conditions.”
