Marion Veterans Get a Special Visit from Santa

NEWS

No matter your age, a visit from Santa Clause is always exciting. Gallatin County Soil and Water Conservation District are acting as Santa's elves to help serve those who served this holiday season. Employees are busy making gift bags for the veterans at the Marion VA. They are hoping to give each patient a cute stocking filled with baked goodies, toiletries, clothing, books, Christmas cards - any little thing to make the season a little brighter. Phyliss Mace organizes the program, she says it can be hard for the patients to get things like stamps or new books. Jodi Hawkins, her partner in kind, says that the veterans deserve all the help they can get.

Each year they make the gift-giving a little extra special by having Santa Clause deliver the stockings himself. Hawkins says, “It’s wonderful to see their faces.”

Donations for this year ends December 12, but will continue to be accepted for 2015. Donations can be mailed to: Gallatin County Soil and Water Conservation District 1000 West Main St. Ridgway, IL 62979, or items can be brought to the office.
