Christmas Dinner with the Student Santas

NEWS

Student Santas is planning a Christmas Day dinner that will serve 400 empty stomachs, bring in 50 volunteers, 2 participating restaurants, and a partridge in a pear tree. Well, maybe not the partridge, but it is completely free, and will give those in need a chance to have a warm Christmas meal. Isle Casino Cape Girardeau is donating meat for the event, and Ryan's steakhouse is contributing vegetables, rolls and desserts. Student Santas is putting in the man hours to make it all happen. Taking time out of the holiday, whole families are stepping forward to make sure everyone has a merry feast this year. Even Santa Claus, after his busy night of delivering will be stopping by to give out gift bags to the children in attendance.

Student Santas started as an extra credit project in a class run by Southeast Missouri State University teacher Jennifer Icaza-Gast. It is now a community-wide organization that is entering its 10th year. They also do family adoption services for Christmas, and donate toys to families in need.

Christmas dinner will be served from noon to 4:00 p.m. December 25 at the Central Junior High School cafeteria. It is free, but you must have a ticket, which are available through December 19 at Franklin and Jefferson elementary schools.
