Kids in Murphysboro Get a Chance to Make Video Games

NEWS

Murphysboro residences Robin Rath and Josh Stevens have been video game fans since they were children, dreaming of making their own video games for years. Now they’re making it possible for all children to create their own video games using a simple program on an ipad.

Using Kickstarter to fund the project, Rath and Stevens created Pixel Press Floors, a program that brings video games you draw to life. Simply draw the layout for the game on a piece of paper, take a picture with an ipad or iphone, and start playing. The creator can also choose backgrounds, stories, and characters.

To promote the program the boys hosted the Big Muddy Monster Holiday Game Jame, in which the children of Murphysboro Middle School gathered in the cafeteria to try out the game for free with parents and teachers. Sponsors provided ipads, T-shirts, and pizza. Rath and Stevens want the game to open doors for creative thinking and innovation in game creation.

The boys are off to a successful start, they are now creating a Pixel Press Floors app for Cartoon Network, scheduled for release in January 2015.
