SIU’s Solar Fest and Dawg Fest to feature free outdoor concerts this fall

CARBONDALE, Ill. — The Summer Sunset Concerts series is a popular regional attraction throughout the warm summer months, and while it has ended for 2018, you can experience the same kind of outdoor musical enjoyment at two Southern Illinois University Carbondale Festivals this fall.

Songwriters and musicians aren’t unique in Nashville, unless you’re Kimberley Dahme.  Not only has she performed and recorded with A-List Music City musicians she was also a member of the iconic Rock band “Boston.” Fans of Live local music around Cape Girardeau may know Dahme as a participant in the Riverside Ramble at the Yaht Club in Port Cape this past June.  Iluvlocalplaces caught up with Kimberely at her base near Nashville, TN!


Welcome New Redhawks! Opening Week 2018 Kicks Off Aug. 16

Southeast Missouri State University will welcome its newest Redhawks to the fold to begin the 2018-2019 academic year during Opening Week 2018 festivities beginning Aug. 16.


Southeast, TG University Host First Annual Camp Innovate

Southeast Missouri State University and TG University with TG Missouri Corp. recently partnered to offer local youth the opportunity to invent, explore and create at Camp Innovate, a new Horizons Summer Youth Enrichment Camp.

The three-day camp, hosted in Perryville, Missouri, allowed children ages 11-14 the opportunity to learn new ideas and concepts, thinking outside the box under the guidance of Southeast faculty.

Downtown Cape is a great place to live with so many places to visit and support - which not only helps the local economy but gives Cape its distinct character. Maybe that is one of the reasons why Architectural Digest recently named Cape Girardeau as the prettiest town in Missouri.

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Sky gazers will have a great opportunity to see our celestial neighbor Mars this month during a special observation event hosted at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

The Mars Opposition viewing event is set for 8:30 p.m. to midnight on July 27 at the SIU farms astronomy observation area west of the campus. The event, hosted by SIU’s Department of Physics and the Astronomical Association of Southern Illinois, is free and open to the public.

River Campus Announces 2018-2019 Season Lineup

Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus invites patrons to another remarkable season of music, art, theatre and museum exhibits during the 2018-2019 season.

The 12th River Campus season will, again, offer a spectacular breadth of performing arts events by professional touring companies as well as Southeast’s departments of music and art, The Jeanine Larson Dobbins Conservatory of Theatre and Dance, and the Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum.


SIU beer, more facilities on tap for Fermentation Science Institute

Matt McCarroll, director of the Fermentation Science Institute at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, stands in a field of barley planted on university property last fall in anticipation of a new malting facility to be delivered to the FSI this year. U.S. Service Award Scholarship Established at Southeast

The U.S. Service Award Scholarship has been established through the Southeast Missouri University Foundation.

John and Patricia Reinhart of St. Louis, Missouri, recently made a $10,000 gift to create the award.
