Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Founder, Former Members Performing at River Campus

John McEuen, a founding member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (NGDB), will perform with other former band members at Southeast Missouri State University’s Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall on the River Campus on Jan. 27. The concert will include music from the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s (NGDB) catalogue and McEuen’s recent album.

Former First Lady Laura Bush Speaking at Southeast

Former U.S. First Lady Laura Bush, an advocate for literacy, education and women’s rights, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 21 at Southeast Missouri State University.

Tickets are required for “An Evening with Laura Bush” and will go on sale Dec. 1. General admission tickets can be purchased at or the Show Me Center Box Office. Current Southeast faculty, staff and students can use a Redhawks ID to pick up a free ticket in the Center for Student Involvement (University Center Room 204) or the Show Me Center Box Office.

 A Tapanuli orangutan, a newly discovered third species of the great ape, hangs in a tree in North Sumatra, Indonesia. Southern Illinois University Carbondale anthropology doctoral student Matthew Nowak is among the international team of researchers who recently made the discovery. Dr. Freeman Hrabowski to Keynote Southeast’s King Dinner

Eighth Annual Fault Line Film Festival Showcases Regional Student Talent

Southeast Missouri State University students, regional high school students and students from across Missouri and surrounding states will display their cinematic talents and skills in this year’s Fault Line Film Festival at Southeast Missouri State University.

The festival begins with a keynote address at noon on Nov. 8 in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast’s River Campus. A Gala event and film screening will take place at 7 p.m. Nov. 10 in the Forrest H. Rose Theatre, with an awards ceremony immediately following. All events are free.


VintageNOW 8 Brings Safe House for Women A Step Closer to New Shelter

The Safe House for Women, Cape Girardeau’s service agency for survivors of domestic violence, recently announced a new fundraising campaign to construct a larger, more accessible crisis shelter for women and children.  The Safe Tomorrows Shelter Campaign will provide funds to build a 40-bed facility with features such as a classroom, library, and children’s play area.
