Puppy Love for SEMO Students

PuppyLast Friday the University Center at Southeast Missouri State University was filled with the sound of baby-talk, ‘awes’, and giggling. Students were ogling over the puppies of the Humane Society who decided to pay everyone a visit and wish them a happy Valentine’s Day.

It’s hard to feel sad when you’re receiving puppy-dog kisses. Thanks to the puppies from the Humane Society, no one had to feel left out this Valentine’s Day. Sisters Viola and Lola came dressed in pink sweaters, while students formed a circle, taking turns getting hugs and licks. The positive response to the special visit was overwhelming, even those that walked by without petting the dogs had a smile on their face.

Officials who set up the event said that animal interaction is very important, especially for students living in dorms or small apartments where pets aren’t allowed. Even just petting an animal can lower blood pressure, and this can mean a big stress relief for the busy college student.

Officials added that they hope to make the puppy visits a monthly event to promote these healthy interactions, which are good for the puppies as well, as they give them exercise, positive human play time, and adoption press.

A photo booth was the icing on this fluffy cake, students took turns having their picture taken with Viola and Lola, complete with Valentine props. The pictures were automatically uploaded to Facebook. You can check them out here on their Facebook page.

It seemed that students sincerely appreciated the visit, and fun was had by all, even when the water bowl was knocked over. Who doesn’t need a little mischief in their life?
