The Front Porch Jamboree

Front Porch JamboreeThe little log building on Hwy OO in Fredericktown has sat quiet and empty for a long time, but recently the sound of music, and the pound of dancing feet can once again be heard, bringing life back into the old place.

Shannon Cox is the man behind this transformation. As a musician, Cox has a passion for music, something he wanted to share with his community. “In such a small town there’s not a lot to do, I wanted to create something for families to enjoy.” Cox felt it was important to have a place that was family friendly, since music was how he connects with his son, Ethan, who plays drums in their band.

The new establishment is called The Front Porch Jamboree. With it’s log cabin aesthetic, and rustic interior the name suits it well. At The Front Porch Jamboree all are welcome to come inside, listen to live country music, enjoy some snacks, and even learn some line dancing. There is no drinking or smoking at the Jamboree, which makes it the perfect destination for kids and families.

Cox provides the music each Friday. A concrete truck driver by day, Cox becomes lead singer for The Black Diamond Band by night. Other members of the band include Butch Gillian, Josh Driskill, and Eric Thompson, who hail from all over the area, from Bonne Terre to Arcadia Valley. Once in awhile they even get some rhythm guitar from Madison County Sheriff  Bobby Spain. The Black Diamond Band

While the band plays locally all through the region Cox was inspired by live venues that he went to as a kid, to create a place of his own. “The building used to be called the Villa back in the 20s,” Cox reflected, “ When I was younger I had this seventy-year-old neighbor who had played the fiddle at the Villa, and he would tell me stories about it.” Things have come full circle as a new generation takes on the musical need of the community, bringing entertainment and fun to the small town.

The Front Porch Jamboree is open each Friday, with live music 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and line dance lessons by Chris McCarver from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. Anyone interested in performing at the Jamboree, or having The Black Diamond Band play at their venue can contact Shannon Cox at This email address is being protected from spambots.
