Stock image: creative commonsThis weekend the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo is galloping in for its 64th year. With bull-riding, a parade, and live music concerts, the rodeo has proven itself to be one of the area’s most popular events.

The Bootheel Rodeo is a staple of Missouri traditions for locals, some of whom have been going all their lives. It all starts Wednesday, August 10 with bull riding, bull fighting, and more, accompanied by a country music concert, and the antics of the rodeo clowns. Chase Rice will perform on Wednesday to kick off the week.

On Thursday, August 11 Granger Smith will take the stage. This night is Long round bullfighting. The Bullfighters will go against Evan Allard's Hookin A Ranch stock to complete for $5,000 added money.

Special events for this year include a free Behind the Chutes Tour. On August 12 at 10 a.m. patrons can go behind the scenes and see what it takes to put on the annual rodeo, as well as meet the clowns, cowboys, and announcers.

Also August 12 the Sikeston Factory Outlet Store will be hosting a Clowns and Queens Lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Here rodeo fans can meet clowns, bullfighters, and pageant queens while enjoying lunch, face painting, and live music.

Friday night at the rodeo has live music by Dwight Yoakam with short round bullfighting in which Bullfighters go against Evan Allard's Hookin' A Ranch stock in the final round to take home $5000 added money.

The parade takes place on Saturday, August 13 starting at 10 a.m. Line-up starts at Sikeston Kindergarten Center, then runs down Salcedo Road, then south down N. Kingshighway all the way to the Downtown Sikeston Depot Museum.
