I Luv Local Year in Review: 2013

We had plenty of opportunity to see old friends, make new friends, and enjoy several events this year. You could find us out and about capturing moments of Locals Having Fun, and if you were caught having fun with us, we hope you enjoyed the encounter as much as we did. Here's a look back into our 2013, and perhaps a sneak peek of what to expect in 2014!

It might have been cold in February, but that doesn't stop the ambition of those jumping into an icy lake for a great cause. We were there to capture moments as hundreds of brave people participated in the Polar Plunge for the Special Olympics. View the whole album here.

March brought us good music, fun crowds, and a good round of Putt-Putt golf for St. Patrick's Day. We made our rounds, and turned out with photos of Arena Golf’s Putt Putt Tournament, Rhymer’s St. Pat’s Party, and the 2013 Saint Pat's Pub Crawl. We can't forget the fun we had at Sikeston's First Annual St. Patrick's Day Celebration either. Click on the photos below to recall the photo albums.

KFVS 12 had their 5KFVS 5K and 12K in April. We were there rooting people on and to document the participants as they went on their run. Check out the photos below in addition to a video of the pre-run performance by Us Instead.

Come May, we made it over to Carbondale to take in the local and regional art, wine, and music at their Bi-Annual Art and Wine Fair.

June kicked off the month with the Annual 4x4 Truck pull in Altenburg. Check out the video we took and the photo album below. In addition to the engines roaring at the truck pull, June also saw the First Annual Bikers on the Square in Perryville. Bikes (and their riders, of course) came in from many miles around for the fun.

We had a blast (pun intended) during Jackson’s 4th of July Celebration in the City Park. There were fireworks, the return of Mud Volleyball, lots of food, and more making it one of the biggest celebrations in the area. Click on the photo below for the whole album.

We catapulted into September for the SEMO District Fair, capturing the fun several nights. Click on the photos below for the corresponding albums.

Also exciting in September was the opening of Melaina’s Magical Playground, a project many years in the making. You can check out some photos by clicking on the one below.

Perhaps one of the biggest excitements of the year came with the filming of Gone Girl throughout Cape and in Southern Illinois. We were there to document some of the filming, as well as having several first hand accounts from people who participated as extras. Check out the stories by clicking on their titles below, and don't forget to relive the experiece through our photo album!

October was full of events and things to do. Bella Italia celebrated 10 years in business with live music and good fun. Uptown Jackson's 1st Annual Oktoberfest had a little battle with some inclement weather at the start of the event, but overall turned out to be a great time. VintageNOW4 reached new heights as the show was completely sold out with all of the proceeds going to the Safe House for Women. SEMO Homecoming brought the good ol' hometown support out in many as they cheered on Southeast Missouri State University. Topping off the month, the Southeast Showcase offered another year of costumes, food and fun as money was raised for the SoutheastHEALTH Cancer Center. View the albums by clicking on the corresponding albums for each below.

The weather was far from miserable in November, making the opening of Dogtown, Cape’s first ever dog Park in Kiwanis Park, perfect. We were there to catch the action as our furry friends make their trek into the park for the first time. Look the photo album linked below and see a video of the event here.

The year's excitement didn't slow down in December. We were there for the Old Town Cape Parade of Lights, getting us in the mood for the upcoming Christmas season. (Click below for photos!)

Excitedly, we attended the 12th Annual Happy Slapowitz Toy Bash and were happy to announce they surpassed their prior record, acquiring $20,800 for the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program.

We made it to plenty of other events this year too. You can check out our photo albums here and videos here.

Now, as the weather is frigid and the year is almost gone, we are looking to the future. We don't expect any less of 2014 as we close out 2013. Look for us behind the camera, in the booth, and behind the scenes as new adventures await and familiar adventures are repeated. We hope to see the same fun, excitement, and enthusiasm in 2014 wherever our calendars may take us. See you there!
