APRIL 2018: FIRST FRIDAY WITH THE ARTS
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO – On Friday, APRIL 6, from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m., be part of the Downtown Cape Girardeau community for First Friday with the Arts. Join local art galleries and First Friday businesses for a wonderful night of celebrating the arts! Many galleries and businesses will be hosting opening receptions for new exhibits, as well fun activities for the whole family to participate in! Below is a list of our First Friday galleries and businesses and what they have planned!
GALLERIES
The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri invites you to the opening reception for the 16th Annual Visual Arts Cooperative Exhibition. Arts Council members, Dr. Jean A. Chapman and Dr. Edwin Smith, founded the Visual Arts Cooperative in the year 2002. The VAC is comprised of over forty regional artists that create beautiful artwork in an array of mediums, including: acrylic, oil, pastel, graphite, charcoal, photography, sculpture, and textiles. Their work is exhibited monthly next door to the Arts Council in the Visual Arts Cooperative Gallery. This exhibition will utilize both galleries and will showcase two works from each Visual Arts Cooperative member, along with various pieces of miniature artwork. Exhibiting in the windows of the VAC for the month of April will be Larry Braun and Anita Dickerson.
The Arts Council will also be exhibiting two art students from Southeast Missouri State University inside the Micro Galleries, located in the back of the Arts Council. The two students will be Marqusha Oliver and Alexis Howard.
Catapult Creative House announces the opening of Dispatch, an exhibition of buttons and patches. The exhibition will open on the First Friday in April. A one of a kind creative arts and industries incubator, Catapult Creative House promotes artists working across disciplines to foster the interaction between the community and diverse areas of study. A reception is scheduled for 5-9 p.m. on April 6th, in the Catapult Gallery. Attendees are welcome to tour the Catapult facilities including the Southeast Missouri State University Art Department students’ gallery and studios upstairs.
Live T-Shirt Printing
From 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., there will be a live t-shirt printing! A variety of greeting cards and postcards will be for sale for $4 or less, with discounts for purchasing larger quantities.
“Simplicity"
Student Studios will hold its April Artist of the Month exhibition. The exhibition titled Simplicity?, will feature the work of Southeast Missouri State University artist Illya Klyopov. The exhibition is located on the second floor of Catapult Creative House and will run until April 7th with a reception to be held on Friday, April 6th.
Pop-Up Shop
Catapult Creative House Studio Students’ Pop Up Shop will take place three times during the month of April. Your purchase helps support students exploring entrepreneurship. The unique art available in the Pop Up Shop is individually hand-crafted by a student or alumni of Southeast Missouri State University. Pop Up Shop sales will be held at Catapult Creative House April 6 5:00-9:00, April 7 12:00-4:00, and at the University Center April 18 10:00-6:00.
The Crisp Museum
Papermaking
April 6, from 4-8 p.m., articipants will learn how to blend colored confetti with paper pulp, strain and press it into paper. The paper dries overnight or with minimal ironing. The public is invited to attend, and admission is free. Supplies are provided.
“The Annual Juried Student Exhibition” will be displayed in the Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus April 6-29. An opening reception for the exhibiting students is scheduled for 4-8 p.m. April 6 and is open to the public. The awards ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. in the John and Betty Glenn Convocation Center.

Free Spirit Studio and the Indie House Mother Earth welcomes Glass Gardens by Stacey. Free Spirit Studio will be featuring Little Ant Soap Company. Brickwood Boutique is hosting Lu Stephany. Crystals, pampering yourself & massages... what more could you want? How about sangria and the Violin Dragoness?
The Gallery of Inspiration will have our front windows full of Black Light Art and hopefully enough Black Lights to light up the art. The artwork will be done by Gallery of Inspiration Artists and will be for sale.
The Painted Wren Art Gallery – Local author, Bill Hopkins, will sign his newest mystery, Harvest Death, the sixth book in his Judge Rosswell Carew series. Bill's books take place in Cape Girardeau and Bollinger Counties and the surrounding area.
The River Campus Art Gallery will host the "Salon des Refuse" show up in conjunction with that Annual Juried Student Exhibition opening in the Crisp Museum.

Selah by Sherry Montgomery will be open First Friday from 10:30am - 7:00pm with many new collections, paintings and seasonal work by Sherry.
Selah is an intentionally curated Vintage gallery space filled with more than just pretty things. It is a space where all who enter will hopefully feel an atmosphere of peace, hope and joy. They leave knowing they've encountered a space investing into the unseen as well as the seen.

On Cue Performing Arts Studio is located in downtown Cape Girardeau! Our studio was founded on the vision of bringing the Performing Arts together in an educational setting for children and adults in Cape Girardeau, as well as the Southeast Missouri area.
