Jackson Community Center Groundbreaking

The Clark Family, who donated the land where the Community Center will be constructedThe Jackson Community Center and FEMA Safe Room Project officially broke ground Wednesday, October 15. The 23,300 square foot facility will feature a multipurpose gymnasium doubling as a FEMA safe room. Also among the features of the facility are basketball courts, volleyball courts, walking track, banquet hall, meeting rooms, community space, coffee bar, concessions, offices, and public restrooms.

The project is partially funded by Southeast Missouri Medical Center, Inc who contributed $3 million and the Clark family who donated the land for the facility. Additional funding comes from a FEMA grant. The facility  will be supported by a quarter-cent sales tax that was previously voted on by Jackson voters.

While the project has faced delays amid awaiting federal approval for the shelter, it is set to be completed in as few as twelve months. The architectural design for the community center was conceived by Incite Design Studio, and Brockmiller Construction, Inc. of Farmington was awarded the contract for construction of the multi-million dollar facility.
