Get Tickets Before They’re Going, Going, Gone!
If you enjoy mingling with Cape’s movers and shakers at a classy party that ends with the fun of a spirited auction, make plans to attend the 25th Annual Charles L. Hutson auction Saturday, August 11th. The fun begins at 6:30 p.m. at Dockside: The Upper Deck, 4 N. Spanish.
Heavy hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be available throughout the evening along with the opportunity to bid on many items in a silent auction. In the past these have included Cardinals tickets, meals at popular restaurants, and gift certificates for things like spa treatments and teeth whitening. Then the live auction begins for higher-end items such as fine jewelry, furniture, artwork, rare antiques and trips. (Did we mention Isle Casino is a sponsor?)
Many people don’t realize that although Old Town Cape is focused on rebuilding downtown, the efforts of this nonprofit organization benefit the entire community. Tunes at Twilight, the popular new Riverfront Market, the annual Parade of Lights and the downtown holiday decorations and open house are Old Town Cape projects that bring in people from the entire region and are funded in part by the auction.
Marla Mills, Executive Director of Old Town Cape explains, “We see this not only as a fundraising event but as a way for us to connect with the community. I’m always proud to see how excited everyone is to be there, and this year will be no exception. Everyone always has a great time.”
Last year’s Charles L. Hutson Auction/Straight No Chaser Benefit Concert placed as a semi-finalist in the statewide Missouri Main Street Conference. Auction coordinator and Old Town Cape volunteer Jerra Hutson says, “The Hutson family has had a business and been involved in downtown Cape for over sixty years. Our family is committed to helping make downtown successful and helping with the auction is just part of that commitment. For twenty-five years, the auction has been a fun event for a great purpose!”
Reservations are $35 each and include heavy hors d’oeuvres catered by Port Cape Girardeau. Limited tables of 8 are also available for $280. Reservations can be made by calling Old Town Cape at 573-334-8085.
Old Town Cape is a nationally accredited Main Street Program that works to build a downtown community that cherishes its past and is an economically viable district in which the citizens of Cape Girardeau can live, work and play.
