What do a missing guitar and Cape Girardeau have in common? The answer is Eric Dahl. You may recall a couple years ago local nativeEric Dahl purchased B.B. King's Lucille from a pawn shop. After discovering the instrument was the original prototype created for King, and also discovering it had been stolen from him, Dahl arranged to meet with the music legend to return the guitar to him. That experience led Dahl to research the history of the particular instrument, as well as BB King's other career guitars, amplifiers and other gear used to make him famous, and he is publishing a book of his findings.
Known as the "King of the Blues," a pun perhaps to his name but tribute to his work nonetheless, BB King was an inspiration to not only the blues genre, but the whole music industry.
Dahl's book B.B. King's Lucille and the Loves Before Her highlights King's collection of equipment throughout his career. Also in the book are interviews with King's vice-president of bookings, rhythm guitarist, and drummer, an eight-page color section with detailed pictures, foreword written by King himself, Eric's story of returning the stolen guitar, and complete serializations, specifications, and current values of King's signature models.
The book will be available this fall, with a shipping date of October. It is available for pre-purchase here.
