The community of independents has long been supported in Cape Girardeau, from musicians, painters, writers, sculptures, to fashion designers, students, and photographers there are many looking for a chance to unveil their talents for all to see. This is what Hearts and Beats is all about, and they are offering that chance with the very first All Things Art Festival.
Hearts and Beats is the creation of Brandon McCadney, a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, McCadney understands the importance of a ‘showing-off’ opportunity, “I always wanted to perform and show people what I can do, that’s what the festival is about.” Hearts and Beats is a platform for artists and creators to showcase their talent. McCadney hosts a similar event in St. Louis, and there are few limits to who can join in, “I want to get anyone with any creative ability.”
McCadney said the All Things Art Festival has been a year in the making, all for one day of incorporated arts, with as many different artistic mediums as possible, “I saw Cape growing, I saw a lot of talent, and I wanted to help people showcase that talent.” Musicians, artists, fashion designers, even entrepreneurs are welcome to participate in the festival, which will be spread out through Downtown Cape.
“It’s an explosion of talent,” McCadney said, “a welcoming atmosphere where people can network, and experience this kind of event.”
The All Things Art Festival will start with a meet-up at Codefi on Broadway where participants can pitch ideas and engage with other artists and entrepreneurs, then flow down Main Street to Cup ‘N Cork. Businesses will be participating to help house the artwork and events.
“There’s a need for this so people can benefit from who they meet, can express themselves, and absorb in an art atmosphere. Everyone will experience something.”
McCadney expressed his excitement, and hopes to expand the festival in years to come, spreading it out through the rest of Cape, and bringing in more independents and entrepreneurs, including those from out of town in an attempt to grow networks and create communication.
Slots are filling up quickly, but more are welcome to sign up to participate in the festival. Get more information on their Facebook page, sign up for a spot on their tumblr, or check out their instagram and twitter: @HeartsAndBeats_#ATAFEST2015.
