Come one, come all to the Greatest Show on Earth! The Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus has been a familiar sight for generations of children. The performance will keep circus-goers reveling with daring acrobatics, comedic clowns, a "one on one" game of basketball, animal antics, and superhuman stunts.
What started as a museum in New York City soon turned into a spectacle that many gathered to see. Debuting in 1870, P. T. Barnum began touring the nation with P. T. Barnum's Grand Traveling Museum, Menagerie, Caravan and Circus. This later became Barnum and Bailey's Greatest Show on Earth after a new partnership with James A. Bailey. The circus delighted audiences and prospered, making a sound name for the organization. After Barnum's death, Bailey merged Barnum and Bailey's Greatest Show on Earth with The Ringling Bros. Circus, though the two toured separately. Eventually, the two came together for a combined performance, thus forming The Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey Circus that is still performing today.
The Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus has produced its share of legends over its 145 year (and counting) history. From Lou Jacobs, clown and circus hall of famer, to high-flying, tiny trapeze artist Lillian Leitzel, to the mighty mammal King Tusk, the performers have made a mark not only in the history of circus, but in the legends and lore of all circus-goers to date.
And now, The Greatest Show on Earth is coming to a venue near you! The circus will be at the Show Me Center Tuesday, April 28 and Wednesday, April 29.
All ticket holders can attend the all-access pre-show and get a feel for what it is like to be part of The Greatest Show on Earth! Try on costumes, learn circus skills, meet the performers, and have a photo op with the clowns. It all starts one hour before show time.
