The HerrinFesta Italiana is a week-long festival in Herrin Illinois that not only celebrates the city’s Italian heritage, but provides amazing entertainment and ceremony for the beginning of summer. This year the HerrinFesta Italiana is having it’s silver anniversary, marking 25 years in style.
It’s just not a festival without a carnival and this year Herrin has an all new provider with brand new rides and attractions including a ferris wheel and roller coaster. North American Midway Entertainment - one of the biggest fair-providers in the country - is happily providing the festival with some of their inventory including a Mini-Himalaya, and Gravitron.
While the entire week will host the Miss HerrinFesta Pageant, and Honoree Banquet, and a Talent Show the real fun starts Memorial Day weekend with some of the nation’s favorite bands performing. Drew Baldridge, Third Eye Blind, Cole Swindell, Chase Rice, and REO Speedwagon will be providing concerts all weekend, bringing the classic, the new, the country, and the rock, all on the famous Piazza stage.
For the athletic types there will be a golf, and Bocce tournament, and a triathlon. Saturday is the Grand Parade, and for the kids there will also be a Kids Bike and Pet Parade, and a stage performance by Lori’s Puppets. The HerrinFesta is open to everyone and will have activities to please anyone of any age.
For the more ‘Italian’ side of the festival there will be a Beard and Mustache Competition, and a Pasta-Eating Contest. The festival will also host a unique Bocce tournament, an Italian game described as a combination of horseshoes and bowling. The tournament is available for players of all ages, and includes a championship division.
That’s only scratching the surface of all the events happening May 18-25. Come celebrate the season, the heritage, and the fun. Venues, events, and times all vary, visit the HerrinFesta Italiana website for a schedule and details, or follow them on Facebook.
