This just in: a naked, flying man has been spotted in the area, shooting people with arrows. No one has reported injury, but those affected are showing signs of irrational behavior. Symptoms of the strange arrows include: wine and chocolate craving, a sudden need for roses, and talking in a baby-voice. If you have experienced these symptoms, read on, we have the cure.
If you've been struck by Cupid's arrow we have just the thing to help you and your loved one have a fun and memorable Valentine's Day. Whether it's simple and sweet, or party hardy, there's a special Valentine date just for the two of you.
For the chocolate lovers out there don’t settle for another heart-shaped box of Russell Stover, stroll down the beautiful and historic Downtown Ste. Genevieve with someone special, and indulge in the annual Chocolate Walk. Over 30 participating locations will give you plenty of delectable candy to choose from, and with all the unique shops you’re sure to find each other the perfect gift along the way.
Maybe a traditional candlelight dinner is all you need. Fine wine and good food are always better when you share them with your favorite person. Several wineries in the area are hosting romantic dinners; sample wine and desert pairings on the Route Du Vin for their Romancing the Grape event, or enjoy some live music with your dinner at Apple Creek Winery or Papa’s Vineyard. Hedman Vineyard and Von Jakob Winery offer four-course dinners for those who enjoy a broad palette.
All about atmosphere? The historic Oliver House in Jackson is hosting a dinner as well. Or, for a more private experience the Library in Downtown Cape is opening up their VIP area, The Study, where couples can enjoy their choice of wine, a vase of roses, and desert in an intimate setting.
If you have the Valentine blues, you might find yourself right at home at Port Cape for the 4th Annual Cross Rivers Blues Festival. Highlighting the event is blues music by The Bel Airs, Big Larry, Bruce Zimmerman, Ivas John Band and Gary Gordon as well as an included appetizer buffet. Tickets are on sale now at Port Cape, Hempies and Shivelbine's Music Store.
If romance isn’t your thing, but you still like to get rowdy and have a good time, Whiskey River, and Isle Casino will be having live music late into the night, or you can join the Roller Derby girls for their Swagger Stagger Pub Crawl.
For those couples that like to get up and move, there are plenty of dance parties as well. Ray’s Plaza is the place to be with a DJ, and large banquet. Cheekwood studios will be there as well to capture the moment. If you end up making plans at the last minute, don’t worry, tickets will be available at the door. For a more casual flow the VFW in Cape is hosting an event as well, you can work off their hearty steak dinner by dancing the night away to the music styling’s of Band Crimson County.
For the full package KRCU is hosting a huge celebration at the Isle Casino, a Love and Luck Valentine Party with Shades of Soul, open bar, and a buffet dinner, and it all helps support the public radio. The perfect way to bring it all together, and there’s still plenty of time to purchase tickets.
Are you not entertained? Take in a show with ‘Love Letters’ at the Marion Cultural and Civic Center, or watch the holiday music concert at the Osage Center.
Don’t let Valentine’s Day feel like an obligation, this is a chance to have fun and celebrate with the person you love. Take advantage of all the fun the area has to offer: wine, dancing, and good company, our seasonal calendar has it all. Check out all the events and find that perfect date.
