Pairing some of the top chefs in the area with a worthy cause, the March of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction is an exciting evening of culinary creations by teams of chefs from across the area, live and silent auctions, and a wealth of fun. The event benefits the March of Dimes as well as the health of babies and mothers throughout Missouri.
Attendees will be treated to samples of several courses prepared by the teams of chefs, who all must use a list of specific ingredients selected by the auction committee. People's choice award style voting will determine the winner of the Top Chef title.
Smokin' Brothers, Inc. of Cape Girardeau took the title of Top Chef in 2013. It was their first ever year as part of the event, and the accomplishment is one they wish to repeat in 2014. At the helm of the team is Ryan Eftink, BBQ master extraordinaire, and though Top Chef is quite the achievement when competing against culinary experts from the region, Eftink said, "We don't do it for the recognition. We do it to benefit the cause behind it."
Eftink also said of last year, "We teamed up with Mike Renick to give an auction item of a Backyard BBQ party. It did really well [at the auction], and we're doing that again this year." The party being auctioned includes food for 20 people, live music, and 5 cases of your favorite beer. Other auction items include a two night stay at Big Cedar Lodge in Ridgedale, MO, a Mizzou Tigers Basketball experience, and many other various items donated by regional retailers.
The Signature Chefs Auction will be held Thursday, Nov. 6 at Ray's Banquet Center (The Plaza Conference Center) in Cape Girardeau. Doors open at 6:15pm and tickets are available for $50 per ticket or $400 for a table. For ticket information, please contact Beth Simmons at 573-651-6033 or via email.
