Saturday, July 20, 2013 marks the 4th Annual Hoops for Life 5K in memory of Sahara "Hoops" Aldridge who lost her battle with a brainstem tumor in 2007. While Sahara's battle was lost, the fight will go on.
Sahara’s parents Shannon and Amy Aldridge have spent countless hours dedicating themselves to raising money for pediatric brain tumor research. However, they humble themselves as organizers giving all the credit to those who participate and volunteer to help.
Speaking last year of the race, Shannon said “I have seen races elsewhere that are huge, and I want to bring that to this community.” And that is what the race is becoming. The number of racers has grown steadily over the past 3 years with approximately 1,500 runners who have joined the cause all together.
All proceeds from these events go directly to pediatric cancer research in memory of Sahara.
While many did not know her, Sahara's story has touched the hearts and lives of many. The event has hope to grow and share her story while raising money for such a worthy cause.
The race will take place at Kiwinis Park in Cape. Find all of the details and registration information on event'swebsite.
