First Friday is always a fun event, everyone loves coming downtown and taking in the arts, but on June 5 the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri is taking things up a notch with a pet’s night out so that all your four-legged friends can have a night out on the town as well.
Several venues in Downtown Cape will be hosting pet-friendly events. There will be face painting at the Painted Wren Art Gallery, a special show and tell with Lazy L. Safari Park in the The Bilderbach Art Plaza, and custom-made clothes and dog treats at DazSpell Creations. Make the most of the night by picking up a stamp card at any of the participating locations, when you get six stamps you’ll receive a coupon for doggy treats at Mississippi Mutts.
If you’re going out, you’ll have to look your best, so get dressed up and enter the dog costume contest at Mississippi Mutts. Put on your tutus, paint your nails, and strut your stuff. Winners will be announced at 6:30 p.m. at the Arts Council.
If you have yet to find your four-legged soulmate then stop by Cup ‘N Cork, they’ll be holding an adoption event with the humane society to help humans and dogs find their new best friend. Even if you can’t adopt help out with a donation, or give those puppies some love.
To capture the moment of what is sure to be a memorable night stop by either Annie Laurie’s Antiques for pet caricatures, or Kram Photography for the pet photobooth.
For you knitters and crochet whizzes stop by the Tangled Yarn for pet coloring pages, or Yearning 4 Yarn to join in the fundraiser for Mac the Pitbull who will be raising money to help other misunderstood and mistreated dogs in the area.
As a special treat the On Cue Performing Arts Studio will have their first opening where patrons can come in to learn about the new studio. You can take part in some dance lessons, or sign up for classes in dancing, theatre, singing, and more. Pets are allowed inside as well, so maybe they can learn some dance steps too. Check out their website to see what they have to offer.
Don’t miss this specially themed First Friday, June 5 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Visit the Art Council's website for details and participating venues.
