With the Fourth of July right around the corner, communities across the region are offering events to celebrate.
The City of Jackson is hosting their annual celebration with some timeless favorite events as well as some events new to this year's festivities. All events take place in the city park, aside from the 5K.
Kick off the day with an energizing 5K Run/Walk. Beginning at 7:04am according to the City of Jackson website, the Independence Day festivities begin with tribute the July 4th date. The 5K begins and ends at HealthPoint with medals for the first 3 finishers in each age group. You can find the registration form for the 5K here.
Next on the schedule of events it the Mud Volleyball Tournament, a Fourth of July favorite, beginning at 8am. The tournament pits team against team in a double elimination tournament with teams vying for cash prizes. Please note that the team registration deadline is June 25th at 5pm. You can download the registration and waiver form (must be signed by all team members) here. Don't forget to come cheer on your favorite team!
Running concurrently with mud volleyball is the car show beginning at 9am. This annual event features show worthy cars, trucks and motorcycles with awards given in several classes. Registration is available the day of the event with the option for show-only (non-judged entries.)
This year's event won't limit the muddy mayhem to just the volleyball players either. Children ages 7-12 are invited to dive into the Kids Mud Pit and Obstacle course offered from 10am to 2pm.
For the Little Misses, and Little Misters, there will be the first ever Little Miss Firecracker Pageant for ages 0 and up. Several age groups are available and a king and queen will be crowned for each division. The attire is no dresses required - just don anything red, white and blue. You can find registration information for thathere.
Other events included in the celebration are the Jackson Elks Beer Garden open at 9am, Art in the Park, Food Stands, and Pony Rides beginning at 11am, a patriotic bicycle ride at 11am, and live music by the Southern Brothers at 7pm followed by Jackson Municipal band at 8pm.
