The SEMO District Fair is a little over a month away and as one of Cape Girardeau’s favorite events everyone is getting geared up. Celebrating its 75th Anniversary at Arena Park the SEMO Fair has a full lineup of events and entertainment sure to make for a fun and memorable week.
For a small entry fee fair-goers can enjoy a variety of activities and performances each day. Returning to the fair is Woody’s Menagerie and Circus of Wildlife Show, which will feature live animals. For a less exotic take there is Hyper Dogz with Dixie The Magical Horse, performing tricks and running through obstacle courses. While you’re walking through the fairgrounds keep an eye out for the Disney Spectacular cast who will be milling for pictures. Also look for Wade Henry - he’ll be hard to miss as he juggles and rides about on his unicycle.
The grandstand will host an amazing show each day, starting with an Antique Tractor Pull Saturday morning, and the Dual Demo Derby Saturday night. Sunday is the Heartland Barrel Racing Extravaganza. Monday will introduce the live music lineup with 38 Special. The Newsboys will take the stage on Tuesday, and on Wednesday it’s the residents of Cape will get a turn with the performance of Heartland Idol. Dan + Shay will close on Thursday. Friday and Saturday will end the fair on a roaring note with the Hot Rod Truck and Tractor Pull.
It all starts Saturday with the Parade starting at 9:30 a.m. The procession will begin at Capaha Park and go down Broadway, turn right onto Kingshighway, and end at the fairgrounds.
As usual there will be plenty of food vendors, carnival rides, livestock, and games. Other activities include a washer tournament, livestock contests, a pageant, and a free bingo game open to everyone. For a full, detailed schedule visit the SEMO Fair website. You can also buy your tickets in advance, click here for prices, and look for special discount days.
The SEMO District Fair takes place September 12 to the 19 at the fairgrounds in Arena Park, 410 Kiwanis Drive in Cape Girardeau.
