The much anticipated SEMO District Fair is coming in only a couple of weeks and there are many new developments happening to mark the special 75th anniversary in Arena Park.
As the weather starts to cool visiting the fair is a perfect September activity. Full of games, food, and entertainment the SEMO Fair offers fun for everyone. Some new changes this year include several great deals on admission and tickets. Two for Tuesday lets you buy two tickets for the price of one. Thursday is now “Thrifty Thursday” with half-price general admission, and only $15 wristbands. On Friday you can get $12 armbands for all rides and ages.
Musical entertainment this year will feature 38 Special at 8 p.m. on Monday, The Newsboys at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, and Dan + Shay at 8 p.m. on Thursday. Other entertainment includes Heartland Idol on Wednesday at 7 p.m., and a Hot Rod Truck and Tractor Pull Friday and Saturday. The purchase of grandstand tickets also includes entry to the fair as long as they are bought online in advance.
Also new to the fair is the “Dog and Pony Show with The Ultimate canines and Dixie the Magic Horse. They will be performing tricks and stunts throughout the week.
The parade will take place on Saturday at 9:30 a.m., starting in Capaha Park, and working it’s way up Broadway to Kingshighway. The parade features local businesses, high school marching bands, and, of course, free candy.
Fair organizer Pete Poe talked about another addition to the fair this year, “We’ll be hosting the "Remembering Our Fallen" photo display honoring Missouri service people having died during recent conflicts. There will also be a Missouri fire and rescue training exhibit dealing with Grain Bin entrapment.”
The SEMO District Fair takes place September 12-19 on the fairgrounds at 410 Kiwanis Drive in Cape Girardeau. Visit their website for all the details.
