As the name suggests this week opens the season of thankfulness and giving. In the spirit of the holiday remember to support local stores this weekend with Small Business Saturday.
It’s easy to get caught up in the spectacle of Black Friday, but this weekend doesn’t have to be spent fighting for merchandise and pushing through the crowd. Have a leisurely shopping trip with refreshments, prizes, and the charm of a small business. Enjoy window shopping as you walk downtown through historic buildings and Christmas lights. Relax to the sound of carols, and take advantage of Small Business Saturday sales knowing that you’re helping local merchants stay in business.
Downtown Cape Girardeau is having a special passport event in which shoppers will be entered for a chance to win giveaways. While shopping have the stores stamp your Downtown Passport, the more stores you visit, the better chance you have to win. There will also be plenty of sales and specials going on all day. While you shop warm up at Socials Cafe or Cup N Cork with coffee and hot chocolate, have lunch at a local restaurant, visit Dan the cat at Annie Laurie’s Antiques, and drop the kids off at Discovery Playhouse for some fun.
Downtown Carbondale has several businesses participating. There will be open houses, trunk shows, and refreshments to enjoy at each business. Dayshift is offering free gift wrapping, and other merchants will have sales and giveaways. Go to the website to take the pledge to shop Southern Illinois for a chance to win great prizes.
Perryville asks that you shop small as well. Visit their page for a list of businesses that will be participating in Small Business Saturday sales and specials. Shop among the decore, craft, and florists stores, enjoy lunch at Mary Jane Burgers and Brew, and find perfect gifts for everyone.
Ste. Genevieve is always full of local charm and history. Visit their historic downtown to take in the sites of the beautiful city while you shop. What Nots and Oddities has unique gifts with their art display, and you can enter to win a ride in their dinosaur float for the Christmas Parade. Treat yourself at the Sweet Things Sweet Shop, or visit one of Ste. Genevieve's many wineries for gifts and lunch.
Small Business Saturday brings back old fashion Christmas Shopping, free of stress and stampeding crowds. Shop small this Saturday, November 28 and support local business.
