New year resolutions are a great way to set goals for ourselves for happier and healthier year than last. However it’s often the case that these resolutions are dropped before January even ends, but we want to help you keep those resolutions. Read on for the best local businesses and services that can help you make 2016 the best it can be.
Getting more exercise is the most common resolution, and the hardest to keep. Don’t worry, you don’t have to hit the gym every day or get a personal trainer. Start out small with some yoga - stress-relieving, fun, and easy to learn, yoga helps bring exercise to your body and mind. Yoga East in Downtown Cape has courses for all skill levels.
To get a routine started and make some new friends join Missouri Running Co. every Wednesday at Cup ‘N Cork. Starting at 6:00 p.m. you can join other runners for free for a no-stress social run. Afterwards you and your new running mates can enjoy food and drink specials at Cup ‘N Cork.
Other fun and simple ways to get exercise is with the SEMO Recreation Center. For a monthly or biyearly fee community members can use the facilities for swimming, weight lifting, exercise equipment, team sports like racquetball, as well as organized yoga, zumba, pilates, and other group activities.
Maybe your resolution was to try something new this year. How about a dance class at On Cue Performing Arts Studio? Learn how to knit with The Tangled Yarn, check out the classes being offered at Continuing Education, take a cooking class at the Shawnee Park Center (Jan. 19 is healthy soups for winter. Call 573-339-6340 for info.), or learn to play an instrument at the SEMO Music Academy.
If you’re not quite sure what you’re looking for visit the Health and Wellness Expo on January 7 at the Osage Building in Cape. There will be over 70 vendors providing healthy cooking demos, group fitness classes, wellness screenings, kids zone, and more, so you can figure out exactly what you need to make 2016 a great year.
