Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo
By Heather Capriola
The Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo will be in full swing August 7-10th. The rodeo is a tradition in the Bootheel and always promises to be a good time. This is the Jaycee’s biggest fundraiser and helps the organization be able to donate to different charities such as the Kenny Rogers Medical Center, Missouri Delta Medical Center, and the local YMCA. With rodeo excitement, great country musicians, and everything in between, there is sure to be something for everyone!
The rodeo itself doesn’t start until Wednesday the 7th, but there is a Cowboy Color Chase on Saturday the 3rd. The Cowboy Color Chase is a 5k that is similar to the popular Color Run. Everyone is instructed to wear their white shirts and be prepared to be very colorful when they cross the finish line. There will be prizes in both men and women’s categories. Proceeds from the Cowboy Color Run benefit the Chamber and the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund. More information can be found on their Facebook event page.
In addition to the rodeo events, the Sikeston Bootheel Rodeo is also known for their great country music line-up every year. This year the rodeo will host Brantley Gilbert on Wednesday, Randy Houser on Thursday, Gary Allen on Friday and Chris Cagle on Saturday.
Not interested in the rodeo or country music? Well, there are other events that you can enjoy as well. The Annual Golf Tournament is taking place on August 6th at 8 am. More information on the golf tournament can be found here. Kids will enjoy the Bootheel Rodeo Parade on Saturday August 10th at 10am. The parade starts at the Sikeston Kindergarten School. More information can be found here. Saturdat, there will be the annual Cowboy Up! Art Festival as well featuring trackless train rides, a petting zoo, cowboy & rodeo artifacts, hands on western fun, SEMO Mobile Museum, Kids' Art Walk, and vendors all with free admission. Find out more here.
There are multitudes of ways that you can enjoy the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo: the rodeo itself, the country music concerts, Cowboy Color Chase, the art festival, or the Golf Tournament. Be sure to go out, have fun, and support this great organization!
