The Home Brew Block Party in Perryville, Missouri is celebrating its third year of competition and debauchery. Hosted by Mary Jane Burgers and Brew the block party is a chance for home brewers to show off their craft, and for everyone else to taste it.
With its growing popularity the Home Brew Block Party no longer suits its name, having grown out of the previous venue. Sam Bergmann - Marketing Director for Mary Jane Burgers and Brew - says, “In years past, the city has allowed us one block street to hold our block party, but because of the success of last year, we have been given two blocks - from Jackson Street to North Street.”
The growth shows the community’s support for the event, as it draws in revenue, supports local brewers, and provides fun.
“We are expecting around 500 to 700 people this year who will fill up our square and sample not only home-brewed beer from local home brewers, but also many different professional breweries who will set up tents too,” Sam says.
The event was instigated by Carisa Stark, owner of Mary Jane Burgers & Brew and chairwoman of Downtown Revitalization. This organization is dedicated to the growth and beautification of Perryville, and ticket sales for the event go to that cause.
Over 40 breweries and 15 home brewers will be present. Activities include beer pong, and an open corn hole game. The home brewers competition will take place as well, with trophies awarded to the winners. Local band Lost at Midnight will perform a live music concert.
The Home Brew Block Party takes place May 21 from noon to 4:00 p.m.
