Get your feet off the ground and your head in the clouds - RE/MAX Plus Realty and the Children’s Miracle Network are teaming up to bring their famous icons to life for a hot air balloon ride.
This is the chance to try something new and help a worthy cause. RE/MAX Plus Realty is holding the festival at their location in Cape Girardeau, with the famous RE/MAX balloon taking people for tethered rides. Melissa Glover, Marketing Coordinator for RE/MAX Plus Realty, expressed her excitement for the event and the coincidence behind the hot air balloon, “The RE/MAX balloon has been part of the company since the seventies. It’s an iconic symbol. The Children’s Miracle Network symbol is also a balloon so when RE/MAX took them on as their charity of choice the balloons became a perfect combination.”
This is the first benefit RE/MAX Plus Realty has held for the Children’s Miracle Network. Office owner Shari McConnell hopes it will become an annual event.
Along with balloon rides the event will also feature local vendors, raffles, and prizes. Chick-Fil-A will be attending with their cow mascot, Isle Casino will host a spin-the-wheel game for a chance to win prizes, and Dairy Queen has provided ice cream. For kids there will be face painting, and a balloonologist creating balloon animals.
A variety of prizes will be available, including Cardinals tickets, gift cards, hotel stays, art sculptures, a photography package, and more.
Funds raised at the event go towards two CMN hospitals: St. Louis Children’s Hospital and SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, both of which provide healthcare for the local community, “One of the big things we found out locally,” Melissa said, “is that a lot of people have been helped by this organization.” CMN provides helicopter transport for children that are in need of emergency care, and can be flown to the St. Louis area without an ambulance ride in-between. In the past three years, approximately 4,500 children from Perry, Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, Stoddard, and Scott counties have been treated at member hospitals.
Ten year old Peyton, who is an ambassador for the Children’s Miracle Network, will be attending the hot air balloon event with her family to draw the names of the prize-winners. Peyton was diagnosed with leukemia in 2015, and has been receiving treatment at the St. Louis Children’s Hospital. While Peyton’s condition is in remission, she will continue her treatment for the next two years. The funds raised at this event will help CMN hospitals treat children just like Peyton, who’s ready to get back on the ice and play hockey with her sister as a St. Louis Lady Cyclone.
The hot air balloon event takes place June 10 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m at RE/MAX Plus Realty on 106 Farrar Dr. in Cape Girardeau. Balloon rides start at 6:15 p.m. All proceeds go to Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.
