Several summer concert series take place in the region every summer, inviting the community outdoors for fresh, local music, and free entertainment. Pack a picnic, grab your lawn chairs, and enjoy some free tunes in the great outdoors.
Tunes at Twilight takes place every Friday at 7 p.m. at the Common Pleas Courthouse in Cape Girardeau. Local musicians perform free concerts on the gazebo. Patrons should bring chairs or blankets to enjoy this outdoor event.
Cape Corner Concerts is a new addition to Cape’s music culture. Fridays and Saturdays through June a local musician will perform on one of the street corners in Downtown Cape. Patrons can enjoy the tunes with their downtown shopping.
The Cape Girardeau Municipal Band is here to bring some fun to the middle of your week. Every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. patrons are invited to the Capaha Park band shell for free, outdoor music.
Rockin’ the Rock Garden is a Jackson summer tradition. Every Friday at 7:30 p.m. join a special musical guest as they perform in the Rock Garden in Jackson City Park.
The Jackson Municipal Band has also come together for the summer. Thursdays at 7 p.m. they will perform in the band shell in Jackson City Park accompanied by a guest musician each week.
Music in the Park is Sikeston’s contribution to summer music. They will have bands performing every Thursday at 6 p.m. Concerts will be held in Legion Park at the Keith Collins Band Stand.
Sainte Genevieve has a municipal band series, and a music festival taking place this summer. Every Thursday on the Vallé High School Grounds the Ste. Gen. Municipal Band will perform a free concert.
The 2016 Ste Genevieve Music Festival takes place June 3 through July 29, and while a ticket purchase is required, the festival features a variety of great bands.
Walker’s Bluff in Carterville, Illinois has gotten into the swing of things with a free music series this summer. Starting June 18 at 7 p.m. Walker’s Bluff will host a different local band to perform on certain Saturdays through August.
The Sunset Concert Series in Carbondale starts June 16 and will continue every Thursday at 7 p.m. Locations will rotate between Turley Park and Shryock Auditorium. Bands from all over the United States will perform for free.
Carbondale also hosts Brown Bag Concerts every Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. Everyone is invited to bring a lunch and enjoy these live music performances.
