Alto Vineyards, in partnership with The Angelina Foundation, and Shawnee Shuttle, are hosting a very special event this weekend with the Dawg Daze of Summer Super Shelter Spectacular.
This is the fourth year for Dawg Daze - a special event raising money for nine shelters in Southern Illinois: The Angelina Foundation, Crittergal Rescue, Humane Society of Southern Illinois, P.A.W.S. (Pets Are Worth Saving), Anna, Illinois, Perry County Humane Society, Puppy Rescue 911, Inc., St. Francis Community Animal Rescue & Education, Murphysboro, IL, Rescue Me, Dogs and Cats of Union County IL, and Animal Control and Wright-Way Rescue Admission & Medical Services Campus.
Jillian Miller of Shawnee Shuttle says, “Our goal is to unite people working in animal rescue. We bring everyone together. We needed a solution to this problem and hosting an event was the best way to raise money.”
The community has shown great support, with several sponsors reaching out to donate. Jillian says they have made great strides in animal rescue. In a press release the event is described as “an exciting family and pet-friendly event that strives to increase community awareness about the important role these invaluable local animal rescue organizations provide in managing local animal populations.”
Each organization will be present with information about their services, as well as games and activities. If you’re attending this event unaccompanied consider picking up a new four-legged friend at one of the adoption events hosted by the shelters.
If you are bringing your dog to the spectacular - and all are welcomed with a leash and vaccinations - take advantage of the photobooth and special dog-activities like the costume contest, best pet trick contest, the pet parade, and more. You can also have your pets micro-chipped at the event. Vendors will be on site selling wine, craft beer, food, and crafts. There will also be a live and silent auction, and Dawg Daze souvenirs.
This year the party starts with four local bands taking the stage, including The Rural Kings Bluegrass, The Bankesters, Jenny Johnson Band, and The Swamp Tigers, all of whom have volunteered their time for the cause. In the past musicians have generously worked for free, but this year Jillian says that they will be able to compensate them for their time.
Alto Vineyards, located in Alto Pass, Illinois, also donates for the cause, “They’ve been so generous donating space. They host the event for free and provide staff. We also have volunteers and donations . . . Everybody loves animals, it’s a great event.”
Jillian says that this year they’re hoping to raise $15,000 for the organizations.
Tickets for the event are $10, children 12 and under are free. Dawg Daze of Summer Super Shelter Spectacular takes place June 26, 2016 from noon to 7 p.m. For sponsorship or donation details contact Jillian Miller at 618-201-4841. Click here to purchase tickets in advance.
