Twilight of the Mississippi, An Independent Film
By Emily Sladek
Coming to West Bank Bistro is a sight we love to see…an independent film about a prominent locale. While we strive to support local businesses and events, we also love to see the future of the film industry hard at work through hometown video producers.
The Twilight of the Mississippi is an independent film produced by Closing Eye Studios of Minneapolis, MN. The film is set in the backwaters of the American Heartland on the Mississippi River, following a group who build a raft to travel the mighty body of water. While traveling, they encounter dangerous spirits of the brink of extinction who embody the landscape from which they come: river rats, spiritualists, farmers, vagabonds, and the Army Corps of Engineers. The tale highlights how these people have shaped the foundations of the American Imagination in this piece of the "future history of the Upper Mississippi."
You can enjoy this film in Cape Girardeau one night only at West Bank Bistro Friday, May 24 as the video makes its way on tour along the Mighty Mississippi. The showing starts at 7pm with a Q&A to follow, and admission to the show is free.
