It’s August, back to school, the last of the summer heat, but now is also the time to start preparing for the holiday season. Take a look at what local options are available so you can check things off the to-do list and have a stress-free season.
If money is tight and you need an affordable way to give gifts this year check out Broke Holidays and the Stitch It Knitting and Crochet Group at the Cape Public Library. With these events you can work with others to make your own gifts.
Broke Holidays is a monthly program being held through November. Each month the library will host a craft day. On August 20 patrons are invited to make their own bath bombs. In September they will be making coasters. Projects for October and November are still being planned.
The Stitch It Group is ran by Cindy Rittmer of The Tangled Yarn, she gives free lessons for knitters and crocheters, as long as they bring their own supplies. The next meeting is August 25 at 6 p.m. and will continue every two weeks.
On October 2 the Tailgate Flea Market will be making its fall return. This is an opportunity to find unique gifts. With 120 vendors, and all Downtown businesses open, this is the perfect way to shop, or think outside the box with nifty decorations.
For a more personal take on holiday cheer Taylor Paints and Sweet Designs Boutique offer fun and useful gifts for anyone in the family. Taylor Paints is a local, online business that provides personalized items like signs, mugs, chalkboards, and other unique wood crafts like dutch doors and wine holders.
Sweet Designs Boutique offers similar items, as well as soft crafts like monogrammed baby clothes. Now is the perfect time to order personalized, handmade items from both of these businesses.
There’s no need to wait last minute on food either. Orders will soon be open at Natural Health Organic Food. Talk to them about ordering a free-range, organic turkey for Thanksgiving. If you’re not into baking just look to Downtown Cape; Socials Cafe will cater with holiday cupcakes.
There’s lots of ways to start preparing now so you’re not scrambling come winter. Take advantage of deals from great local businesses.
