This weekend a unique, new event is coming to Jackson City Park in Jackson, Missouri. The Gypsy Sun Caravan promises to be a fun, outdoor market with vendors and activities to delight the community.
Jessica Bauwens is the organizer of the Gypsy Sun Caravan, and she says it’ll be true to its name. “I’m a misfit . . . The gypsies were also misfits, whether by choice or not, so I kind of held onto them, like a family.” Jessica says this event is all about bringing people together. “I knew my life’s mission, the reason I am here is to show love to everyone, especially other misfits.”
The Gypsy Sun Caravan invites the community to come out to the park to enjoy vendors, food trucks, artists, and more. Not only will the day involve shopping, but live music, crafting, and artists. Storytellers and street performers will make this an especially unique event.
Jessica, who has been diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder is using the caravan as an opportunity to meet new people. DID has caused Jessica severe memory issues, and she’s using her business instinct as a platform to rebuild her life. “ I have a long way to go, but in the meantime I want to meet everyone . . . because we are all fighting with something and I just want to spread love and awareness. Mental illness is a sickness like any other, and it's okay.”
Nicknamed the ‘Mad Hatter of Business’ Jessica uses her disability to her advantage. She has created her own business, Be. Designs: ’Where vintage inspired products, education, empowerment, originality, and abstract meet.’ Jessica says, “you can still be very successful. It’s very difficult some days, but if I can do it, anyone can.”
The Caravan is local/small business-friendly, allowing for direct sales and promotion. “It also adds to the local economy because we do our best to fill it with local people. We love it when the money goes right into the pockets of the people.” Jessica adds that there will also be a fundraiser to benefit a local charity.
The Caravan will also be coming to Farmington, Fredericktown, and Ste. Genevieve throughout September and October. Those interested in being part of the next caravan can go to the Facebook page to learn more.
The Gypsy Sun Caravan will be in the Jackson City Park, at Shelter 3 on August 20 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. All are welcome.
