This weekend Arena Park is hosting a Barn Party Benefit Concert for Amy Brown Hodges. The public is invited to enjoy a day of live music, games, and fun, all for a cause.
Amy has been suffering from Endometriosis for almost a decade, and has organized a fundraising event to support her recovery. “My heart is full by the response: invites being shared, people donating their time, musicians asking to help, donations, and just anything you can imagine. I feel very loved and appreciate this more than I can even describe.”
Endometriosis is a disorder that affects women, and causes chronic abdominal pain.
Amy hopes to start a foundation to help local women suffering from Endometriosis. “I feel like God has a plan for me and part of it being an advocate for women.”
Amy’s father, Roger Brown, added that Endometriosis has very little awareness. “Ten percent of women have this problem, but no one ever talks about it.”
Amy recently held a ‘Scavenger Hunt Ride’ and is now hosting a Barn Party Benefit Concert at the Red Show Barn in Arena Park. The response has been huge, with 12 bands volunteering to perform, and more expressing interest.
Amy will soon be receiving treatment from a renowned doctor in Atlanta, Georgia. With the cost of surgery and a prolonged hospital stay Amy is seeking help from the community, which she hopes to give back after her surgery by starting a foundation for others like herself.
The benefit concert will be an all-day event to accommodate all the bands. Some performers include Bruce Zimmerman, BEEF, Tone-Def All Stars, Bob Camp, and many more. Amy hopes to have camel and pony rides - but this feature is still pending approval from the city.
Confirmed activities include games such as a washers tournament, food, drinks, silent auction, dancing, 50-50 raffle, and a Bachelor Auction! Six bachelors have volunteered, and more are invited to sign up.
There is no admission fee. Roger says, “We just want everyone to come out and have a good time.” Donations are being accepted, and there is a Go Fund Me page to help with surgery costs and living expenses.
The Barn Party will be held in Arena Park on September 25 from noon to midnight. For more information contact Roger Brown at 573-587-3932.
