Foodies Unite at Taste of Home Cooking School

Foodies Unite! It was a packed house in the event center at Isle Casino Cape Girardeau for the Taste of Home Cooking School this month with over 500 foodies sharing recipes and a few good laughs.

The interactive event included live recipe and product demonstrations hosted by Taste of Home Culinary Specialist Michael Barna and local River Radio personality Audra Cain. The show featured step-by-step instructions on how to create satisfying and flavorful dishes like Honey Garlic Party Meatballs, Raspberry & Mustard Glazed Pork Loin, White Cheddar Scalloped Potatoes, Ham & Sage Cheddar Scones and Raspberry Lemon Layer Cake. Yum!

All of the delicious dishes were door prizes presented on fabulous serving dishes and all attendees left the show with a bag full of goodies.

“We were thrilled to bring the Taste of Home Cooking School to Cape Girardeau,” said Lyle Randolph, Isle Casino general manager. “Taste of Home cooking school program is one of America’s leading cooking school programs inspiring passionate cooks each year at events across the country. “

The Cooking School has a storied history. It all began in 1948 with a business venture called Homemaker Schools. One busy home economist loaded up her station wagon and drove across the Midwest, stopping at small town appliance dealerships to conduct cooking classes for dozens of “homemakers.” In the 1990’s, the Cooking School was acquired by Taste of Home. Now, more than 60 years later, Taste of Home culinary specialists conduct shows across the country for audiences up to 2,500 people. The mission remains the same, though. To share best loved recipes from one home cook to another.

A vendor fair before the event highlighted local culinary retailers, as well as other specialty businesses including, Old Town Cape’s Riverfront Market, Wesley Langston Photography, Rental Land, Pampered Chef by Krissy Loenneke, Origami Owl, Skinny Wraps, Trendsetters School of Cosmetology,  Pink Zebra, Plexus,       Serenity At Home Massage, Celebrating Home, Younique,  Elite Travel, Jamberry Nails, and Perfectly Posh.

“We were thrilled to present the new Riverfront Market to the attendees at the Taste of Home Cooking School. It was great to see so many people from Cape and the surrounding areas and share details about our new market,” said Marla Mills, executive director, Old Town Cape.
