Johnny McLemore with about 30 friends, family, and neighbors was excited to see the Budweiser Clydesdales galloping down the street and stopping in front of his house. Out of over 1200 entries, McLemore was the contest winner for a case of Budweiser to be delivered to his home by this iconic team of horses on Sunday, June 22nd.
The delivery brought to an end four days of excitement for many in the Cape Girardeau and Perryville area. The fun began Thursday at Schnucks where over 1000 people gathered and were treated to a demonstration of the Clydesdales in action as well as a beer tasting. With temperatures soaring on the asphalt parking lot and concern of heat exhaustion, Schnucks manager Dennis Marchi and his staff jumped into action bringing bottled water for all of the onlookers.
I Luv Local Places was there to take photos of people with the Clydesdales and you can see our photo album from the event here.
On Friday at the Hope Therapeutic Horsemanship Center in Perryville (formerly Schemel Stables), the Budweiser Clydesdales put on a series of exhibitions to showcase their abilities as a team to the joy of hundreds of fans.
On Saturday, the team led the parade to kick off the Bikers on the Square event in downtown Perryville and once again posed for many fans, young and old alike to take pictures. You can see our photos of the event here.
The final day was an exciting day with unique moments as the Cape Girardeau police escorted the team east on William Street from the plaza area to the home of Mr. McLemore. With many friends and family waiting on the arrival of the team Johnny Mac, as his friends know him, was decked out in Budweiser clothing and even had a light up Budweiser trailer hitch cover for his truck. It would appear you couldn’t have found a more appropriate winner for the case of Budweiser contest. Johnny Mac’s mother said she “has wanted to see the Clydesdales most of her life” and here she is having her picture made right in front of her son’s house.
Overall, the weekend of festivities was deemed a success by event organizers and participants alike. The opportunities to see the Clydesdale team in action were well enjoyed and a return visit is sure to be much anticipated in the future!
