Historically, the SEMO District Fair has brought well known national and international performers to headline the grandstands. This year is no exception. The fair is slated for September 6-13 and tickets go on sale for all grandstand events July 24 at 8am. Carnival armbands will also go on sale that day. Please note that concert tickets bought in advance admit you into the fairgrounds free.
On Saturday, there will be two events for you to haul the family to. At 8:30am, there will be an antique tractor pull presented by Egypt Mills Antique Tractor Club. The event is free for all to attend and enjoy. Saturday evening will be the ITPA Hot Rod Truck and Tractor Pull. These aren't your run of the mill trucks and tractors. Many have been modified from their original versions and formatted to fit the grandstand! Come see the powerhouses compete in several categories to see who is the biggest and baddest of all! Tickets for the evening event are $12 for grandstand/bleacher seats, or $17 for track seating. The action starts at 7pm.
Sunday also features free entertainment in the grandstands with the Heartland Barrel Racing Extravaganza. Divisions including pee-wee, youth and adults will compete for cash prizes. The high paced, action packed event will showcase horses and their riders as they race around the arena to complete the barrel course. It is an exciting display of athleticism beginning at 1pm.
A highly anticipated event will cap off Monday at the fair. The Demolition Derby brings in cars from all across the region to be smashed up, beat up, and crunched up as the arena alights with heart-pounding action. From flaming cars to flying debris, it's no telling what kind of fun the demo derby will bring! The event starts at 7pm and tickets are $12 for grandstand/bleacher seats, or $17 for track seating.
Tuesday, Jeremy Camp, contemporary Christian musician with a history rooted in sharing his beliefs through his musical talents will take the stage. He has accumulated 25 number one radio singles, four RIAA gold-selling studio albums, a Grammy nominated project and many more accolades. His performances are nothing short of inspirational and uplifting. All tickets are $30 for his performance.
The excitement continues Wednesday with the culmination of the Heartland Idol karaoke contest. Participants from the area have competed through several rounds of competition and the best of the best are left for the live grandstand performance. The winner will be chosen for the $1,000 prize and a recording studio session. This is the 14th year of the contest and it brings out a slew of great local talent. The event is free and starts at 7pm.
Thursday night boasts the ever famous and self proclaimed American Band. Grand Funk Railroad has garnered a lot of love since their establishment 45 years ago. The classic rock group that started as a trio of musicians has achieved 13 gold and 10 platinum records over the years. Their career escalated quickly with hits like "Some Kind of Wonderful", "The Locomotion", "I'm Your Captain (Closer to Home)", and "We're An American Band" among many others. Though only two original members of the once three piece (now five piece) band remain, the band's fame and popularity hasn't derailed for 45 years now. They are some kind of wonderful! All tickets for their performance are $35.
On Friday, the spotlight will fall to Chris Janson, a Missouri-born country music star with humble beginnings who skyrocketed into fame. A chance gig at a honky-tonk in Nashville landed him a job that then landed him record, publishing, booking and management deals. He has shared the stage with Hank Williams Jr. and Florida-Georgia Line among others and is a multi talented singer, songwriter, instrumentalist and vocalist. He brings an energy to the crowd that amplifies his talents as a performer. All tickets for his show are $23.
Saturday, renowned country superstar Clay Walker will round out the 2014 SEMO District Fair lineup. He has amassed four platinum albums and two gold albums throughout his career, and has sent 31 songs to the billboard singles chart with several topping out at number one. Songs like "Live Until I Die", "What's It To You", and "This Woman and This Man" among others have created a timeless collection of songs that will ensure his music lives forever. All tickets for his show are $35.
