Apples take center stage at the 63rd annual Apple Festival September 10-13 in Murphysboro, Illinois. The event is Southern Illinois’ oldest and largest street festival and includes a carnival, concerts, arts & crafts, parade, band competition, fiddle & banjo contest, queen pageant, and walk/run race.
One of the most popular features of the festival is the Appletime Bakery and its delicious apple treats: Apple Pies, Apple Danish, Apple Turnovers, Apple Streusel, Apple Bread, etc. Festival organizers say don’t wait until late Saturday to get your apple goodies. The Appletime Bakery sells out fast.
The Apple Festival highlight for many is The Appletime Grand Parade. The parade is one of the longest in Illinois and festivalgoers stake their spot on the parade route days in advance.
