Something is definitely in the air in Cape, and it’s a rather exciting site to see. The Cape Regional Air Show is returning to the airport June 28 & 29 after a two-year hiatus. This much enjoyed and ever exciting festival returns with thrilling aerobatics, food, and fun!
The weekend lineup of performers promises quite the experience. In order of appearance: The Aerostars Aerobatic Team is a 4-piece crew that wields their Yak 52s, a WW-II type aerobatic trainer, with their performance specializing in tight formations and overwhelming maneuvers. Bill Leff brings to the air his T-6 Texan, pushing the limits of this stock engine and leaving audiences in awe. Kent Pietsch in his Interstate Cadet is known for his daring and comical flight routines that one second will have you gasping, and in an instant will have you laughing with relief, a must see to believe act. Also in the lineup, is Randy Ball who finds his claim to fame behind the controls of a MiG-17F fighter jet. Ball has earned the honor of being the only pilot in North America – civilian or military – to hold an FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) Unlimited Aerobatic rating for both day and night in jet fighters. Not to be undersold, Mike Rinker in his aerobatic Sukhoi Su-26 flies for a cause – breast cancer awareness – his plight in honor of his sister who is a survivor.
Unfortunately, the Blue Angels will not be making an appearance at this year’s festival as they have in the past due to the cancellation of all of their shows for the 2013 season.
Additional events for the festival will be the mass sky lantern launch & memorial and fireworks display on Friday, as well as parachute demonstrations and demonstrations by Missouri Highway Patrol and the Cape Girardeau Fire Department on Saturday. The gates open at 5:00 pm Friday, with opening ceremonies beginning at 6:30 p.m. Saturday gates open at 10:00, with opening ceremonies beginning at noon.
All of the pilots will bring with them amazing acts and feats in the air that will amaze, enthrall and captivate. The festivities will offer an exciting, memorable, and a fun comeback after two years gone. Tickets to the show are available online or at the gate the day of the festival. You can find all of the details on the Cape Air Festival website. Also, follow them on Facebook and Twitter.
