Dog Rescued from Icy Waters

Time is everything during an ice rescue, and Belleville firefighters wasted none last Wednesday when they got a call saying that a dog had fallen through the ice on Stolberg Lake. Stoney, a 4-year-old English Setter wandered away from his home that morning, and was spotted by neighbors crossing the lake. It took the fire department only 2 minutes to respond to the call. They arrived wearing buoyant ice suits which allowed them to swim out into the freezing cold waters unharmed. They had to break a trail through the ice to reach the dog. The rescue took about 10 minutes, in which Stoney was fished out of the water and dried off. The lucky pup was returned to his owner safe and sound.
