SIU Installs Bike Stations

Thanks to the Green Fund Grant, Southern Illinois University is not only helping the campus stay environmentally conscious, but making it easier for students to get around. Last week the campus installed Saluki Spokes Service Stations across campus grounds where students can fix their bicycles. The stations provide a stand to set the bike on, bike pump, and a variety of tools like screwdrivers and wrenches. There’s even a hotline students can call if they’re not sure how to fix the problem. Workshops on how to use the bike stations will be offered in the spring. Many students are grateful for the addition of the fix-it stations, saying that bike riding is easier for getting across campus, and for parking. The school hopes to encourage this sort of transportation and cut back on emissions from cars.
