Animal Shelter Needs New Van

For dogs there’s nothing more fun than a car ride, especially if that ride means they’re going to their new forever home. This is a service The Perry County Humane Society heads for their shelters, transporting animals to shelters and homes all over Illinois, sometimes driving animals up to 300 miles, going to places like Chicago and Champaign, spreading out their rescues to help find homes. Animal shelters and control officers bring animals to Mt. Vernon every Tuesday and load them in the van.

“They have a better chance in the city because a lot of people want cats up there and they want smaller dogs for their apartments,” explains Robin Jarvis, who works for the PCH.

But now the old van that made so many long trips has called it quits, and the organization is in need of a new set of wheels. They are asking the public to lend a helping hand with a Go Fund Me page. Kevin Askew of Marion Animal Control says, "Our animal control here was 99.4 percent placement, and without that, being able to move the animals this freely those numbers would drop," Askew said. The travel service means fewer animals put to sleep, and more in happy homes.

To help them get a new van, go to their Go Fund Me page, and get these puppies and kittens home.
