Sainte Genevieve Art Guild Exhibit

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO-- Friday, July 3, from 5 to 9 p.m., the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri will host a First Friday reception for an exhibit featuring works by members of the Sainte Genevieve Art Guild.

The Ste. Genevieve Art Guild is a group with around 60 members from the geographic region. The guild is a non-profit organization and is a growing inclusive group of fine artists and arts enthusiasts who are committed to the arts, as well as the history and legacy of the Ste. Genevieve area. Ste. Genevieve has a long tradition of involvement with the arts, including ties to artists such as: John James Audubon, Thomas Hart Benton, Joe Jones, Charles Rhinehart and Rosco Misselhorn. In the 1930’s, the town was also home to the Ste. Genevieve Art Colony and Summer School of art.

While the Guild is primarily focused on the visual arts, the group welcomes practicing artists from any fine arts discipline.  Some are full time professional artists and art educators, and others enjoy creating art as a part time pastime or hobbies.

For display in the exhibit, participating members were asked to submit one or two pieces that represent their personal style.  No theme was indicated. Works on display will showcase traditional media such as oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, fibers, and photography. However, the group will also have a sculpture and several pewter pieces on display from the new ASL Pewter Foundry in Ste. Genevieve.

The Visual Arts Cooperative will also debut new works in their gallery space at the Arts Council.

Join other arts patrons and supporters in welcoming the Ste. Genevieve Art Guild on Friday, July 3rd from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri is located at 32 North Main Street in Cape Girardeau, MO. Galleries are open Tuesday- Saturday, from 10 a.m to 4 p.m.
