The Mississippi River Tales Mural Celebrates 10th Anniversary

The Mississippi River Tales mural painted on the Cape Girardeau floodwall serves as a visual chronicle to Cape Girardeau's history. Painted in 2003 by Thomas Melvin the mural is getting new and improved signage. Chuck Martin, Executive Director of the Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau, says that, "The new signage has more text that the original signs providing visitors with a great understanding of each panel of the mural.  In addition, the graphic designer did a phenomenal job of creating a visually appealing look through the new signage." The public is invited to the commemoration ceremony on July 30 at 2 p.m. on the corner of Water and Themis St., where Cape Mayor Harry Rediger, will offer welcoming remarks. Muralist Thomas Melvin, and former River Heritage Mural Association president Tim Blattner will also be present.
