Lutheran Family and Children's Services (LFCS) will host the 29th Annual Holiday Home Tour on Saturday, December 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  This year the tour will feature five locations in the Cape Girardeau and Jackson area- including a locally famous historic landmark in downtown Cape Girardeau.  Tickets will be on sale the first week of November.

One of only two large fundraising events for LFCS, the Holiday Home Tour is by far the largest money-maker for the organization.  According to Michelle Ramsey, Regional Development Officer for the Southeast Missouri Region of LFCS, historical averages show that approximately 700-800 tour-goers purchase tickets for this longtime favorite area event.

Ramsey adds, “The big draw for the event is getting an inside look at the beautiful homes and locations that so many people drive by every day.  There’s a natural curiosity inside all of us that is the driving force behind the success of the event.  Often it’s the mystery and intrigue of how we imagine the homes to look on the inside.  How do the homeowners decorate for the holidays?  What is their taste or style of decorating?  And of course there are those who just love to spend time with their friends or loved ones taking in the sights and helping support our cause.”

Ramsey says that they consider themselves very fortunate to be in such a generous and supportive area.  “We are blessed to have a very dedicated group of supporters that make up the Holiday Home Tour Committee, and that committee is the key to the event’s success.  These members are out networking throughout the year, be it for their professions, social organizations, or with their friends and acquaintances.  When we start planning the next Holiday Home Tour, we discuss potential locations and what we think will draw the most people.”  Ramsey continues, “The homeowners should also be acknowledged.  They are opening up their private spaces, filled with their personal belongings for complete strangers to walk through.  Without their willingness to share their homes, this event could not be possible.”

Ramsey also points out that financial profitability of this event would not be possible at all without the support of the area business sponsors.  This year Ramsey has added a Presenting Sponsorship for the first time, which is being co-sponsored by Plaza Tire Service and The Barista Coffee Bar.  There are two longtime Corporate Sponsors, The Bank of Missouri and Chris Auffenburg KIA.  Additionally, each location has been sponsored by at least one business partner per site.  “Without the support of our sponsors, we would be completely dependent upon ticket sales to raise the funds.  They step up and give this event, and our organization, the financial foundation we need to have a profitable and successful event each and every year.  Our local media outlets are also very supportive in helping us get the word out about our event and sell the tickets in advance, so you can see that without this generous community support, we would be lost,” Ramsey adds.

“We are very excited to announce our tour locations for the 29th Annual Holiday Home Tour,” says Ramsey.  “This year’s tour will offer two historic spots in downtown Cape Girardeau, offering many their first-ever glimpse inside the historic Marquette Tower which will be fully decorated for the holidays, and also offer complimentary refreshments for those attending.  Additionally on the tour in downtown Cape, is the beautiful home of Drs. Bert and Mary Ann Kellerman located at 6 South Fountain Street, next to City Hall.”

“In the Jackson area, our tour will feature a magnificent 11,000 square foot home that sits majestically on a hillside near LaSalle and County Road 618.  Another historic spot will be the recently restored historic farm, now an event venue, Rademaker’s Rustic Route (formerly the site of Jones’ Heritage Farm) on Highway W, also near LaSalle.   Also on the tour in Jackson, is a beautifully restored 106 year-old home located on Hope Street,” she adds.

Another change to this years’ Holiday Home Tour is the ticket book, which has been transformed into a 2017 calendar featuring the event sponsors, tour locations, map of the tour locations for Cape Girardeau and Jackson, as well as some coupons and special offers from local restaurants for the day of the tour.  “Our goal was to give the ticket book some longevity for our sponsors, and help LFCS tell their story to those who purchase tickets for the event.  We have five tour locations, each being featured on one of the month’s pages, and the remaining  months feature the many services or programs we offer at LFCS,” Ramsey adds.

Advance tickets can be purchased for $25 at all area Bank of Missouri locations- Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Scott City and Marble Hill, the LFCS office- located at 3178 Blattner Drive, Patrick Furniture at 1140 N. Kingshighway, Sunny Hill Garden Center at 206 N. Kingshighway, and at Southeast Health Volunteer Services inside Southeast Hospital, all located in Cape Girardeau.  Tickets will also be available at the door of any of the featured homes for $30 the day of the tour.
