Gus Macker calls for teams of all ages

Local tournament benefiting after-school program seeks more players

Cape Girardeau, Mo. – The team entry deadline has been extended for the area’s third annual Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament, May 6-7, 2017, at Arena Park, 410 Kiwanis Drive, in Cape Girardeau. The tournament is open to boys, girls, men and women of all ages. The new deadline is April 24, 2017.

Teams of four can register now by visiting The registration fee is just $35 per person or $140 for a team of four. All proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Missouri.

“If we get the teams we need, that’s 100 underprivileged kids we could serve every day after school for a year,” said Carol Childers, Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Missouri executive director. “This is a fantastic opportunity for the whole family to have fun and support an essential community resource.”

Teams are computer-matched into male and female divisions within one of the following categories: junior, adult or top. The program takes age, height and the experience level of all four players into consideration when designing matchups. Teams receive at least three scheduled games each tournament, and an official referee is assigned to each game.

Gus Macker officials promise this is not your average basketball tournament. With a Slam Dunk Contest, grudge matches, and a Dream Court designed for the mini-Macker players, audience members and participants can support a worthwhile cause while enjoying good food and a weekend packed with fun.

Gus Macker tournaments are played in more than 75 cities, with more than 200,000 players annually, benefitting communities and local charities alike.
