Local Children’s Coalition to hold Simulcast of National Conference 2018

The Children’s Coalition is once again proud to bring the Empowered to Connect Simulcast to the Cape Girardeau area.  Empowered To Connect, together with Show Hope and The Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development at TCU, hosts this two-day conference designed for adoptive and foster parents, teachers, ministry leaders, mental health counselors and case workers, social workers, residential care staff, and other professionals.

Empowered to Connect helps us to better understand how to help “children from hard places”:  children who have experienced abuse, neglect, or other kinds of trauma, and who struggle with emotional and behavioral difficulties as a result.

The conference was founded by the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, researcher, foster parent, and author of The Connected Child.  Presentations over the 2 day conference focus on Trust-Based Relational Intervention® methods to help bring attachment and connection in families.  The conference is ideal for adoptive and foster parents, those considering adoption or foster care, and those who are serving and supporting others, including social workers, agency professionals, church staff and ministry leaders, teachers, counselors, case workers, and therapists.

The conference will be held from 9am to 5pm on Friday and Saturday, April 27th and 28th, in the auditorium at LaCroix Church, 3102 Lexington Avenue in Cape Girardeau.  Doors will open at 8:30am both days.  There is no charge to attend the conference, but pre-registration is required at  Participants will receive a 45 page take-home conference guide with information on each of the conference sessions.  Lunch is on your own.  Registrants may choose to come one or both days of the conference.

Up to 5.5 hours of continuing education hours per day will be provided for child care providers, adoptive and foster parents, and professionals.  Certificates will be distributed at the end of each day.
