The Community Counseling Center Foundation will host a Cottonwood Children’s Center Fundraising Luncheon on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Drury Plaza Conference Center in Cape Girardeau starting at 11:30 a.m.

The event will raise funds for Cottonwood Inpatient Diversion/Residential Treatment, Day Treatment, and Outpatient services.   Children’s services help children ages 5-18 (some cases up to 21 years) with chronic and persistent mental health disorders, avoid psychiatric hospitalization and continue to live within the community.

The Community Counseling Center was asked by the State of Missouri Department of Mental Health to step in to take over the ownership and the operations of the Cottonwood when funding threatened to close the center under the State of Missouri, and took ownership of Cottonwood on January 1, 2015.  Cottonwood has remained at capacity with a waiting list of children in need of their services.

The Center continues to provide progressive treatment in a safe and therapeutic atmosphere.   Children can get the support, therapy and education services they need while avoiding hospitalization.

Children requiring the services of Cottonwood often come from families that have very little resources.  98% of the kids are on Medicaid. This major source of reimbursement still leaves a big gap which the Foundation and the Center have worked hard to fill.

The Foundation hopes the Superheroes Have a Heart for Children fundraising luncheon will meet those needs, and ensure that the Center can sustain and grow the children’s services programs to provide the help needed for our children today and tomorrow.

Cost of a table of 10 is $250.  Guests will hear from children and parents who have benefited from our Cottonwood and Children’s Services and how it changed their lives.  Anyone who wants to be a superhero and have a heart for children is invited to attend and have the opportunity to be inspired by truly amazing stories of the many lives impacted over the years by our healing and helping services.   You can help Community Counseling Center provide opportunities and services to the children and families in our community dealing with a mental health issue. Any individual, couple, company or group can be a Super Hero by purchasing a table for you and your friends or by becoming a Super Hero Sponsor.
